Female prison inmates earn 600 Rakhis

Thane: About 22 female prisoners in Thane Central Jail have handmade over 600 exquisite rakhis for the coming Raksha Bandhan Festivalinformed prison officials. Rani Bhosale, jailer at Thane Central Jail, said that a group of volunteers from the Tata Institute of Social Science had trained 22 of the 133 women inmates at Thane Jail two weeks earlier in the intricate art of rakhi making. “The rakhis cost between Rs 10 and Rs 30 depending on the complexity of the designs. The artistic creations will be on display and available for purchase at the exhibition room outside the prison premises near the old RTO office in Thane until 2 pm on Sunday,” Bhosale said. tnn
