Doug Clifford of “Son of Creedence Clearwater Revival” accused of murdering his girlfriend

The son of the legendary band's drummer faces serious consequences.

The son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford is in custody and is suspected of murder in Placer County, California. According to ABC 10, 55-year-old Brent Chandler Clifford was arrested at the South Placer County Jail and is reportedly a suspect in two counts.

“Investigators are currently interviewing anyone who may have information about the incident: friends, family members, acquaintances,” said Dave Smith, spokesman for the Placer County Sheriff's Office, in a press conference. “Our investigative unit is doing its best to track down any information that could lead to information about what happened.”

The first case involves a missing woman from Kings Beach whose body was reportedly discovered along Mount Rose Highway in Washoe County, Nevada. “It's obviously a crime,” Smith added.

Patricia Portella-Wright, 48, was Clifford's girlfriend who was reportedly last seen with him on Sunday, August 4, and was later reported missing on Friday, August 9. “It is with heavy hearts that we must announce today (August 15, 2024) that we have located the body of a female believed to be Patricia Portella-Wright. The body was found off of Mt Rose Highway in Washoe County, Nevada. We are awaiting confirmation of identification from the Washoe County Coroner's Office,” the Placer County Sheriff's Officer wrote on social media.

Twenty-six miles from Portella-Wright's body, William Andrews' body was found after he was shot. According to police, Clifford drove around in his red 2003 Chevy Blazer for a while after Andrews' alleged murder.

Clifford was arrested Wednesday in Portola in Plumas County. He was booked into the South Placer Jail and was not eligible for bail. He also faces identity theft charges in connection with the murder case. Portella-Wright's friends and family spoke out after her disappearance, telling ABC 10 they were hoping for the best.

“She is loved and terribly missed by her family and friends, not only by all of us but by all of our clients at our gallery. We have reached out to them with concern and worry,” they told the outlet.
