They said more than 40 to 50 people were treated for heat-related illnesses, several people were taken to local hospitals while others were moved indoors.

They said if a large number of patients are injured, it is considered a mass casualty event because many resources are needed and medical resources may be overwhelmed. You can read their full statement below:

The Colorado Springs Fire Department is currently working a mass casualty incident at the Pikes Peak Airshow where more than 40 to 50 people are suffering from heat-related illnesses. Several people were transported to local hospitals while others were taken indoors to cool down. Fortunately, no one died. Mass casualty incidents include injuries. When a large number of patients are admitted with injuries, it is considered an MCI because many resources are needed, medical resources may become overwhelmed, and hospital partners must be assisted in preparing for multiple patients.

On social media, representatives from the Pikes Peak Airshow, CSFD and Colorado Springs Airport are reminding everyone to stay hydrated, saying there is a free water station in the center of the grounds near the medical station.
