Akron Police Bodycam Video Released of Mass Murder at June 1 Party

A new bodycam video from the Akron Police Department shows the moments before and after the mass shooting on Kelly Avenue on June 1.

There was a birthday party going on and about 200 people were being loud and setting off fireworks. Body camera video showed police arriving at the party and asking people to move off the street because of traffic.

Just hours after this video, 30 people were shot at the same birthday party on June 2. Among them was 27-year-old father Lateris Cook.

After the police left the first time, people returned to the party. Shortly after midnight, police began receiving calls about gunshots.

What complicates the case is the number of weapons that appear to have been fired during the shooting. Police said they found shell casings from more than five weapons.

More than two months later, no one has been arrested and no charges have been filed.

Anyone with information is asked to call Akron Police at 330-375-2552.

We are reviewing a significant amount of bodycam video and will continue to investigate this story.
