Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) conspiracy to keep him in jail until the parliamentary elections in the capital had failed.

Earlier this month, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was released from prison after 17 months in jail for alleged irregularities in the now-abolished excise policy for 2021-22.

The Supreme Court granted him bail on August 9, arguing that keeping him behind bars in the hope of a speedy trial would deprive him of his fundamental right.

Sisodia, during his Padyatra in Delhi's Patparganjalso expressed hope that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is in Tihar Jail in connection with the same case, will also be released soon.

“After 17 months, I have returned to my brothers and sisters in Patparganj. They (BJP) tried to keep me in jail on false charges till the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. But thanks to the blessings of Bajrangbali and Ram Ji, their conspiracies failed,” Sisodia said at a rally, according to PTI.

Without naming the party leaders, Sisodia claimed that the central government authorities had initiated the same proceedings against him and Kejriwal as they had against terrorists and the drug mafia.

During the two-hour-long march on Saturday, which started from West Vinod Nagar, the local MP walked through the streets in the centre and interacted with people standing on the roadside waving the national flags and the AAP party flag.

Several people welcomed Sisodia with placards reading: “Manish Sisodia has come, Kejriwal will also come (out of prison).”

Sisodia began his padyatra from Kalkaji in south Delhi on Friday evening. The AAP leader has planned to cover all constituencies during the march. The march will be held in Deoli constituency on Sunday.

The march is part of a series of awareness programmes planned by the AAP ahead of next year's state elections, which are expected to be held in February.
