Couple dies after collision with truck in Jalgaon district

Nashik: A man (58) and his wife died when their scooter was hit by a truck on the Jalgaon-Chalisgaon road. Jalgaon District on Friday evening. The accident occurred when the couple was returning to Jalgaon after attending the funeral of a relative in Erandol.
Police identified the dead man as Avinash Vijay Singh Patil and his wife Meenabai (52).
Inspector Satish Gorade of the Erandol police said that as the couple were passing near the New English Medium School in Erandol, about 3 km from Jalgaon, Avinash saw a cyclist coming towards the scooter from the wrong side of the road. “To give way to him, Avinash steered the scooter to the right. In the process, the two-wheeler was hit by a truck coming from behind. The couple sustained serious injuries in the accident and died at the spot,” Gorade said.
The bodies of the man and his wife were taken to Erandol Rural Hospital. Erandol police arrested the truck driver and a charge of culpable homicide was filed against him.
Avinash worked in a school in Chalisgaon.
