President Biden and First Lady will make “strong arguments” for Harris’ election at the DNC on Monday night

(CHICAGO) — President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday evening, a senior DNCC spokesman confirmed.

Their speeches would be “a strong argument for electing Harris,” the spokesman said.

“We are delighted to honor and celebrate the President’s lifelong service and unmatched legacy,” the statement continued.

Advisers say Biden will address “how we ensured that democracy prevailed and was implemented in the battle for the soul of America, and how we must now, with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, ensure that democracy is preserved.”

Harris, who is on the campaign trail this weekend, will arrive in Chicago from Pennsylvania on Sunday evening and is expected to attend the “Tributes to Biden” on Monday before heading to Milwaukee for a rally on Tuesday.

The Democratic Party Convention begins in Chicago on Monday. Democratic Party delegates will support Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, after their unconventional path to the party's nomination.

During the four-day convention, Democratic heavyweights will rally behind Harris, who was officially confirmed as the Democratic presidential candidate earlier this month after winning the vast majority of delegates' votes in a virtual ballot.

Harris' path to the DNC was unorthodox and truncated after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race on July 21 and endorsed Harris for the post.
