Rape and murder by doctor: CBI interrogates former director of RG Kar Hospital for third consecutive day

CBI officials have asked former director of state-run RG Kar Medical and College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh to appear before them for questioning for the third consecutive day as part of their investigation into the rape and murder of a woman doctor. Ghosh, who was questioned for nearly 13 hours on Saturday, from 10 am to after midnight on Sunday, has been asked to appear again this morning as the CBI investigators still have several questions for him, an official of the probe agency said.

After the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, former chief minister Omar Abdullah said that the Jammu and Kashmir Parliament, in its first act after the elections, will pass a resolution against the central government's decision to revoke Article 370. The Modi government revoked Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories on August 5, 2019. “The Jammu and Kashmir Parliament, in its first act after the elections, will pass a resolution against the central government's decision to strip the region of its statehood and special status,” Omar Abdullah said on Saturday. National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah on Saturday chaired a meeting of party workers and discussed issues related to the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, political affairs and organisation, a day after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the elections.

Rape and murder case in Kolkata: Resident doctors continue to be outraged, health care continues to be affected across Bengal

Healthcare services across West Bengal were disrupted for the 10th consecutive day on Sunday as protesting junior doctors at government hospitals continued their walkout demanding justice for the doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Since outpatient departments of government hospitals are closed on Sundays, the crowd was less as senior doctors were in the emergency department to treat patients.

Bomb threat against Navi Mumbai shopping centre: investigations underway

The AIMPLB has made it clear that it will not turn away from Shariah. Its spokesperson, Dr SQR Ilyas, in a press statement expressed dismay over Prime Minister Modi's announcement to label personal laws based on religion – like Shariah – as communal laws.

According to AIMPLB, Muslims in India have the right to apply the laws of their religion. This is enshrined in the Shariat Application Act, 1937 and the Indian Constitution. Article 25 of the Constitution states that citizens have the fundamental right to profess, propagate and practice their religion and to obey its laws.
