If you're anything like me, when it comes to baking, you probably prefer a simple, easy-to-follow recipe. For some reason, baking stresses me out! How can these professional chefs seem so calm when they're juggling so many things at once?

That's why it's so refreshing to watch actress and avid home cook Jennifer Garner keep it real on her “Pretend Cooking Show,” tackling all kinds of recipes with humor and humility, from an incredibly simple (and incredibly good) two-ingredient treat to the family favorite that she “cooks all afternoon” for during the holidays.

And like any enthusiastic home cook, Garner loves trying out recipes from some of TV's most popular chefs. We know she loves Ina Garten and her recipes (her fancy scrambled eggs and her favorite soup, to name a few), but in an early episode of “Pretend Cooking Show,” Garner showcases a delicious homemade creation from another cooking personality—one might even say pioneer—that we all know and love.

Jennifer Garner loves Pioneer Woman's Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake recipe

In one of her earlier episodes, Garner reveals that one of her favorite chocolate cake recipes comes from a very famous chef, the Pioneer Woman.

Garner's video begins with her opening a popular cookbook from Pioneer Woman magazine to Ree Drummond's Texas Sheet Cake recipe, revealing that she even wrote “Great” in the margin of the page.

“[The cake] “It just works every time,” says Garner. “There's never a day that isn't a good day for a chocolate sheet cake.”

Garner sets about assembling the cake, joking that she just got her manicure done and will do her best to avoid smudging while she works. She follows Drummond's original recipe but makes a few changes when it comes to the sugar, reducing the amount in both the cake and the frosting. In the cake, she uses 1 1/2 cups instead of the recommended 2. In the frosting, she halves the amount of powdered sugar from 1 pound to 1/2 pound.

Garner uses eggs from her own chickens for the batter, and as she spreads it on a baking sheet, it's clear how enthusiastic she is about this recipe. While the cake is baking, she prepares the rich, glossy frosting. “We're all going to be happy tonight,” she says as she tops the cake with it a little later. Garner baked a beautiful cake and – spoiler alert – her manicure survived, too.

When it comes to appreciating this specialty from the Lone Star State, the team at Allrecipes agrees with Garner. Emily Lichty, who is from Texas, where the cake originates, says it's a no-brainer that celebrities like Garner love this cake so much.

“As a dedicated, long-time Pioneer Woman fan, this Texas Sheet Cake is definitely one of the [me and my family’s] favorites,” she says. “I remember [my mom] I made it for my sister's birthday in August, but we've made it many times for different occasions or just as a fun treat. It's super easy and a Texas classic.”

Sounds like it's time to do like Garner and Texans everywhere and make this sheet cake recipe a part of your recipe repertoire.
