Calcutta doctor rape case: ‘Victim worked 48 hours straight’, CBI investigation reveals

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday questioned Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, for several hours as part of its investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata.

During interrogation, Ghosh was asked about the weekly duty roster of the pulmonary department where the victim worked. The officer said the former director had revealed that the junior doctor worked 48 hours straight.

Furthermore, Ghosh was questioned about his whereabouts on the night of the death of the postgraduate intern, who called him to inform him about the incident and his primary reaction to it. PTI reported.

Investigators also verified Dr. Sandip Ghosh's statements by comparing them with the reports of doctors, interns and nurses who were on duty at the hospital that night.

He was asked about his first reaction after learning of the doctor's death. Investigators asked who he had instructed to inform the family and how and who had contacted the police.

The officer also collected samples and sent them to the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory for examination. The same team later visited Roy's rented apartment on Sambhunath Pandit Street in South Kolkata, where they questioned his mother about his recent activities and recorded her written statement.

Sandip Ghosh resigned from his post two days after the body of the trainee doctor was discovered on August 9. The investigating agency has drawn up a list of around 40 people, including doctors and police officers, whom it wants to question as part of its investigation. So far, more than 20 people have already been questioned.

The incident occurred on August 9, when a junior doctor was found dead in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, triggering nationwide protests in the medical community.
