Journalist says Yves Bissouma could leave Tottenham after video incident

Tottenham Hotspur defensive midfielder Yves Bissouma is at a crossroads, with his future at the club in serious doubt following a recent controversy.

The 27-year-old Mali international, who joined Tottenham in the summer of 2022, has been an important player for the team, but a recent off-field incident casts a shadow over his status within the team.

The controversy began just days before the start of the new Premier League season when a video emerged showing Bissouma inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas”.

The incident quickly sparked outrage among fans and pundits and led to widespread criticism of the midfielder. Bissouma recognised the seriousness of the situation and issued a public apology, admitting that he had shown a “serious lack of judgement” and expressing regret for his actions.

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou reacted immediately by suspending Bissouma for the opening game of the season.

Postecoglou, known for his strict disciplinary policy, made it clear that Bissouma would have to work hard to regain the trust of his manager and teammates.

The Spurs boss stressed the importance of responsibility and professionalism and said that although Bissouma made a mistake, he still has the opportunity to redeem himself.

Despite the suspension, Bissouma remains a highly talented player and his potential availability on the transfer market has not gone unnoticed.

According to reports, including comments from journalist Josh Hughes on the Spurs Chat Podcast, there could be strong interest in Bissouma should Tottenham part ways with the midfielder.

Hughes pointed out that good defensive midfielders are in high demand and Bissouma's skills could attract interest from several top clubs.

“Bissouma could be one to go now,” noted Hughes. “There are not many good players in that defensive midfield position and I think there would be plenty of suitors for him if Tottenham decided to sell.”

Last season, Bissouma was a key figure in Postecoglou's plans, making 28 Premier League appearances and forming a solid midfield duo with Pape Matar Sarr.

He has received a lot of praise from fans and managers for his performances, but now his place in the team is in jeopardy due to his recent actions and his future at Tottenham is uncertain.
