Emmerdale's Tom King gets into trouble when Charity Dingle becomes suspicious

The following article relates to the loss of a child, coercive control, and domestic violence.

Emmerdale Spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has hinted that Tom King could be in trouble because of Charity Dingle's suspicions.

Viewers learn that Tom was compulsively controlling and physically abusive towards Belle throughout their marriage, culminating in her decision to secretly terminate her pregnancy.

When Tom discovered that Belle's claims of having a miscarriage were a lie, he electrocuted himself in a fit of rage by recklessly swinging a pipe around the barn.

In Friday's (June 28) episode on ITV1 and top streaming service ITVX, Belle and Tom were having breakfast in the cafe while Charity, Chas and Lydia watched from afar.

Charity was suspicious of Tom's use of a wheelchair as she felt he just wanted to be looked after.

As Belle got up to check on her order, Charity approached, causing Charity to wonder if her relative was trying to avoid her.

“I know you don’t want super difficult discussions [about the miscarriage] but you can't just sweep everything under the rug,” Charity told Belle.

“It's devastating, I know, but believe me, the worst thing you can do is bottle it all up.”

Charity asked Belle to take Piper to the pub to chat, but Tom interrupted and said they already had plans for dinner later with Jimmy and Nicola.

“There’s still plenty of time until dinner,” Charity reminded Tom.

Charity offered to help a frustrated Tom in his wheelchair, which only angered him further. Back at home, Tom was mean again and ordered Belle to brush her hair to his liking.

As Belle prepared to walk Piper, Tom once again staged a situation to make his wife feel guilty by pretending that he had fallen out of his wheelchair.

“I'm definitely not leaving you now,” Belle vowed as Tom smiled behind her back.

During their dinner with Jimmy and Nicola, Tom covered for Belle by telling them she had had a miscarriage rather than an abortion. He later accused Belle of making him out to be a liar in front of his family.

“Sometimes you really make it hard to love you,” he snapped.

Soon after, an angry Charity showed up at Dale Head after Belle stood her up and noticed the security camera above the front door.

Charity tried to convince Belle that it was not healthy for her to stay in the house all day, but Belle declined her offer of a private conversation.

“I'll never see you alone again,” Charity remarked, and Belle shot back angrily, “Can't you just accept 'no' for an answer?”

Later, Charity called Lydia and Chas together in the back room of the pub to share her concerns about Belle.

“I think there is more to it [than the miscarriage]” Charity insisted. “It just feels like we'll never see her alone.”

Charity admitted to her relatives that she was not sure what was going on, but she feared that Belle was “tangled up in something she couldn't get out of.”

She reminded Chas that Tom had stalked her years ago, then stressed, “I'm just saying that something isn't right here. This just doesn't add up!”

“If Belle needs our help, we will step in.”

Chas and Lydia agreed that they would support Charity in investigating the mystery. Charity's suspicions will continue next week when she tells Belle her concerns about Tom.

Emmerdale will be broadcast weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and streamed on ITVX.
