Search ends with tragic discovery of body of 10-year-old girl in Pos Kuala Mu swamp near Sungai Siput

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 – The body of 10-year-old Nuraina Humaira Rosli, an Orang Asli child who was reported missing on Friday, was found in a swampy area near Orang Asli Kampung Bersah, Pos Kuala Mu yesterday.

According to Harian Metro, the body of the fourth-grader from Kebangsaan (SK) Pos Kuala Mu was found at 4.20pm yesterday.

Sungai Siput district police chief Superintendent Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin told the Malay daily that the chairman of the Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee (JPKKOA) said the child had been reported missing since Friday afternoon.

“A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been underway since Saturday morning, involving the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) dog squad with the support of various authorities and local residents,” he said.

Police added that a search and rescue operation was carried out within a two-kilometer radius before the victim was found by citizens participating in the operation in a swampy area near the village.

The victim's body was taken to Sungai Siput Hospital and the case is being treated as sudden death pending autopsy results.

According to the information available, the child was last seen around 3 p.m., when he went to a store alone to buy chicken before heading back home, according to police.

The victim's uncle said the girl returned empty-handed because the store was out of chicken. He then asked her to wait because he had to finish some work before they could leave for another store.

While she was waiting, the child was playing on a swing nearby. However, when the uncle came to look for her, he found that she had already disappeared.
