TMC leader summoned by police for providing false information; CBI questions ex-director and accused

Kolkata Police have summoned former BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and two renowned doctors for allegedly spreading rumours and revealing the identity of the doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Days after the brutal rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, concerns about the safety of healthcare workers continue to grow.

In the latest incident, a woman doctor was physically attacked by a group of drunken men at a hospital in Mumbai on Sunday morning. According to eyewitnesses, the doctor on duty was attacked by the drunken patient and a group of five to six men, all under the influence of alcohol.

Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray received a summons from Kolkata Police for tweeting “false information” about the investigation into the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case.

CBI investigators are examining call details and chats of former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, in connection with their investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor.

Ghosh, who appeared before the CBI officials for the third consecutive day on Sunday, was asked to give details of the telephone conversations he had made before and after the incident at the hospital.

“We have a list of questions for him,” the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official told PTI.

The students and junior doctors have decided to continue their protest against the murder and rape of a junior doctor on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata.

In addition to the doctors in Calcutta, junior doctors across the country have also called a strike and demanded better safety for health workers.
