CANDIA, NH – Three people are dead and two injured in a head-on collision on Route 101 in Candia, New Hampshire, Saturday.

According to the New Hampshire State Police, a Toyota Tundra was speeding in the eastbound lane when it struck a Nissan Sentra from the side. It then struck a guardrail before crossing into oncoming traffic in the middle. The Toyota then struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on in the oncoming lane.

The drivers of the Toyota and the Jeep succumbed to their injuries. The passenger of the Jeep was taken to Elliot Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The two occupants of the Nissan were also injured in the crash and were taken to the hospital as a precaution with non-life-threatening injuries. They were identified as 57-year-old Timothy McMahon and 18-year-old Kelly McMahon of Peterboro, New Hampshire.

There is no information about the identity of the victims.

The accident closed both lanes of Route 101. The eastbound lane reopened shortly after the accident. The westbound lanes were closed for four hours.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and say “speed appears to be a factor in the crash.” Anyone with information is asked to call New Hampshire State Police at 603-223-4381.
