Kolkata rape and murder case: Harbhajan Singh issues ‘heartfelt appeal’ and calls for ‘swift and decisive’ action | Latest news from India

The AAP MP and former cricketer spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and West Bengal Governor Ananda Bose about the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Rajya Sabha member of the Aam Admi Party (AAP), on Sunday took to social media to express his “warm request', in a speech to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor CV Ananda Bose over the rape and murder of a student doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Singh expressed his “deep anguish” at the “delay in justice” and urged them to act “swiftly and decisively”.

“The incident has shocked all of our consciences. The safety and dignity of women are non-negotiable. The perpetrators must face the full force of the law and the punishment must be exemplary. Only then can we begin to restore trust in our system and ensure that such a tragedy never happens again and we create a society where every woman feels safe and protected. I think now is the time to act,” he said. wrote on Instagram and posted a screenshot of his letter.

Separately, in a Video messageThe “Turbanator” called for the matter not to be made into a “political issue”.

“What happened to the daughter of the country in Kolkata recently is very wrong. We should all unite and demand justice for her. This should not be made a political issue. Sanjoy Roy, a volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested for the gruesome crime on August 9, which sparked nationwide protests by the medical fraternity and outrage in the civil society. On the orders of the Kolkata High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the case, taking over from the police.
