1 dead, 2 hospitalized after head-on collision on Highway 180, CHP says

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal head-on collision in Fresno County.

It happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday on Highway 180, west of Dickenson Avenue.

According to officials, a 19-year-old man was driving a Toyota Camry eastbound on Highway 180 when he crossed the center line and collided with another Toyota Camry traveling westbound, driven by a 27-year-old man.

The 19-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

The 27-year-old man was freed from his vehicle and taken to Community Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

A woman who was in the car with the 27-year-old was also taken to hospital.

During the investigation, it was determined that the 27-year-old driver, who was not at fault for the accident, was driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was arrested for drunk driving and hospitalized due to the severity of his injuries.

It is not known whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision involving the 19-year-old driver.

The accident caused the motorway to be closed for almost three hours.

The investigation is ongoing.
