Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina faces legal trouble over mass murder allegations

A petition was filed in a Bangladesh court on Sunday accusing deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others of mass murder, alleging that they were involved in a 2013 rally organised by Hefazat-e-Islam.

Babul Sardar Chakhari, chairman of the Bangladesh People's Party (BPP), filed the petition in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zaki-Al-Farabi, according to the Dhaka Tribune. The petition specifically accuses Hasina and others of mass murder during a rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel on May 5, 2013.

Hasina is currently facing 11 cases, including murder, kidnapping and crimes against humanity. The court has recorded the plaintiff's statement and will announce its decision later. These legal disputes have flared up again since Hasina resigned and fled to India amid a mass uprising.
