SPRING LAKE, N.C. (WTVD) – A chase ended with a fatal accident in Cumberland County shortly before midnight on Saturday.

The accident occurred near the intersection of North Bragg Boulevard and McKenzie Road.

Investigators said the suspect being pursued by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol was traveling at times at more than 100 miles per hour. This person initially drove out of Harnett County on NC-87.

ABC11 is still working to determine details about the accident, but it is clear that after colliding with another car near the intersection, the suspect's car went off the road and struck a utility pole. The car then caught fire.

The suspect and the driver of the other car involved in the crash were taken to the hospital. A third person died in the crash, but authorities have not released any details about that person.

This fatal high-speed crash occurred in the same location as another chase just three months ago. In that crash, too, NC State Highway Patrol officers began pursuing a suspect from Harnett County on NC-87.

The engine block of the allegedly stolen vehicle ended up in a parking lot about 100 meters from the accident scene in Spring Lake.
