Convicted murderer David McCord has been arrested by police in Northern Ireland after escaping from custody.

McCord was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2004 for the murder of 26-year-old Nicholas Dickson.

The 54-year-old, who was on parole, was in the care of prison staff at a property in the Crumlin Road area of north Belfast on Friday when he escaped.

He was last seen on Castlereagh Road at around 4.30pm. He was wearing a green jacket and black tracksuit bottoms. He was carrying a red shopping bag.

Over the weekend, Northern Ireland Police attempted to trace the whereabouts of McCord, who was deemed to be “unlawfully at large”, and called on the fugitive prisoner to turn himself in.

The manhunt ended with his arrest on Sunday in the Belfast area.

He was later taken back to prison.
