Tragically, the family found their mother dead at home after noticing something unusual on her Facebook

The family of a mother of one tragically broke into her home and found her dead after noticing a small detail on her Facebook page.

Katy Gough, 32, from Oldham, Greater Manchester, was a fan of raves, festivals and dancing and was nicknamed the 'Green Diva' because she wore the colour every day.

Shortly before Christmas 2022, her family began to worry when she neither liked nor commented on a Facebook photo showing her then two-year-old daughter Lola meeting Santa Claus.

Their fears grew as they tried to reach Katy by phone or text message.

On December 16, they finally broke into her house and found her unconscious, confirming their devastating suspicions.

She committed suicide and was buried in a special green coffin.

“She would have been happy with that,” her mother Elaine Beech told the Manchester Evening News.

Elaine has now spoken about the tragic day and the “cloud of devastation” left behind by her daughter’s death.

Elaine said: “We went, broke in and found her. She had the best life. She must have been so depressed to do what she did.”

“She had split up with her partner, but other than that she was just normal Katy to me. Not even her sister Ashleigh knew about it, even though they were so close. It was a total shock to her. She kept everything to herself.”

Elaine added that Lola is now starting to ask questions about her mother's death.

She said: “Last week she wanted to know how her mum died. She said, 'Grandma, how did my mum die?' She says she wants her mum whenever she sees pictures of Katy.

“We have photos all over the house. It was a devastating shock for her.”

On August 10, Katy's friends decided to walk along Scafell Pike to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK, a charity currently supporting Lola, now four years old.

Among those taking part were friends Abby Morris, Lauren Lawton, Sadie Stevenson, Jannine Marsden, Emma Rowland, Michelle Bromley, Lisa Priest, Carrie McCabe, Vicky Barker and Cara Oldham. The group originally hoped to raise £1,000 but ended up donating £3,150.

Elaine said: “They did a fantastic walk up Scafell Pike in Katy's memory. She didn't know how much she was loved. They will never forget Katy – she was a diamond. She had her whole life ahead of her and in a split second she did the wrong thing.”
