1 dead after fight at Denver cemetery

WHEAT RIDGE, Colorado (KKTV) – A group of people visiting a friend's grave got into a fight Saturday night, leaving one person dead and another injured.

Wheat Ridge police were called to Crown Hill Cemetery at 11 p.m. on a report of a shooting. They found a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound and a woman who appeared to have been injured in a fight.

“Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital where the man was pronounced dead,” said the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO), which was called to the cemetery to take charge of the case.

The deputies searched the cemetery for everyone involved.

“A cordon was set up around the cemetery and all participants in the altercation were arrested. The suspect was eventually located inside the cordon and taken into custody,” the sheriff's office said, identifying him as 22-year-old Ryan Trujillo-Falcon.

The sheriff's office is still investigating what caused a fight at the cemetery. As of Sunday morning, officials are still interviewing witnesses.

“Preliminary information indicates that several individuals who know each other went to Crown Hill Cemetery to visit the grave of one of their friends. At some point, an altercation broke out, which led to an assault and subsequent shooting,” the JCSO said.

Trujillo-Falcon is charged with first-degree murder and second-degree assault. The female victim has since been released from the hospital.
