A 38-year-old prison guard is in custody after an estimated $26,498 was discovered missing from Tobago prison.

According to police reports, an inspection was carried out at Tobago Prison on Young Street in Scarborough in June and certain discrepancies were identified.

A further review of documents was conducted at the Warrants Department of the prison and it was found that during the period October 2023 and January 2024, the amount of $26,498 representing the amounts paid for outstanding warrants that were to be deposited with the Department of Finance had not been received. deposited.

PC Adams investigated and on Friday the 38-year-old prison guard from Carnbee in Tobago was arrested.

He is due to be questioned and charged this weekend after investigators sought legal advice.
