Tanysha Thomas died in a violent crash in Batavia, New York

A woman died in a fatal accident in Batavia on Saturday evening.

At about 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Genesee County Emergency Services received a report of downed power lines on Creek Road near the Batavia city line. When Batavia firefighters and police arrived, they found a power pole in the road and an overturned, burning vehicle in an embankment in the wooded area east of Creek Road, police said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and found the driver, 24-year-old Tanysha Thomas of Caledonia, inside the vehicle. Thomas was taken to United Memorial Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle, police said.

According to police, Thomas was driving north on Creek Road when she lost control on a curve, hitting a telephone pole and a tree before rolling down the embankment and landing on her roof.

The investigation is ongoing.
