Chicago Cubs receive update on serious injury to young pitcher

The Chicago Cubs have had more than enough injury problems throughout the 2024 MLB season.

One of the players who was plagued by injury this season was young starter Jordan Wicks, who had to sit out several games due to injuries.

Wicks, a 24-year-old starter, has started just six games so far this season and appeared in seven, compiling a 1-2 record to go along with a 4.18 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 3.2 K/BB ratio and 28.0 innings pitched.

He has not been able to pitch in a game since June 14, when he was sidelined with an oblique injury.

Wicks recently spoke about the current status of his recovery process and hopes to be back on the field sometime before the end of the season.

He is expected to start in Triple-A on Tuesday, but he will need at least two more starts before he can return to the major leagues.

Before his latest injury, which has kept him out of action since June 14, Wicks was struggling with a forearm problem, after which he only returned for a week with his current injury.

Wicks spoke about his injuries and is obviously frustrated with how the season has gone for him.

“I really wanted to be out there. But for me, it was just about doing what I can every day to get back to where I ultimately want to be.”

Wicks does not believe the two injuries are related.

“It was just one of those things where the timing… you could have had those two games at opposite ends of the season. They just happened to be back to back. It's tough, but it's part of it.”

Craig Counsell commented on Wicks and his possible return to the mound.

“He has to throw. Admittedly, he's a little rusty. He has to get back on the mound, get into the routine: bullpens, pitching and then we'll see where we stand.”

While there is no guarantee Cubs fans will see him again this season, Wicks is trying to get back on the field.

Hopefully he can come back and play a game or two. He is still a very important player for Chicago going forward and the team can only hope that he can get his health back on track and continue to develop and become an important part of the team.
