“He can’t go many places without causing a commotion”: Glen Powell on how Tom Cruise’s now famous debut appearance in “Twisters” came about

Glen Powell is increasingly establishing himself as a real movie star in the entertainment industry, as his fame seems to increase with every film he appears in. Some even go so far as to compare him with his Top Shooter: Maverick Co-star Tom Cruise. Of course, the two main actors do not seem to be very competitive, but support each other. This was certainly the case when Cruise appeared at the premiere from Powell's latest film, Twistersand then brought the Internet to a standstill. Now Powell has provided an explanation as to how this now famous appearance came about.

Fans certainly seemed excited when Glen Powell and Tom Cruise attended the premiere of Twisters. And honestly, who could blame them for getting excited when they saw the two movie stars smiling together while holding packets of popcorn. Powell spoke about the viral moment when he was interviewed by Capital city alongside co-star Anthony Ramos. After joking that we didn't even know Cruise was going to appear, Powell explained that he personally extended the invitation:

I invited him. You never know when you're going to invite someone like that – it's a big deal when you invite a fellow actor to a premiere because it always becomes a thing for them, you know? And Tom especially can't go anywhere without causing a ruckus. And the fact that he showed up for me was really fucking cool.

Many would certainly agree that when it comes to the various celebrities, Tom Cruise is at the top of the list alongside some other A-list celebrities. So it certainly says a lot that the Mission: Impossible Icon was willing to endure the fanfare for his friend. Of course, Cruise is also an avowed film fan, so it would have been a bit surprising if he had missed the opportunity to celebrate one of the greatest contributions to Cinema program 2024. And as Furnish The star further recalled that Cruise really enjoyed it:

And to watch a movie with Tom – he loves this movie. He sat right behind Anthony, right next to me and Daisy [Edgar-Jones] is behind us. And [Tom’s] as well as punching people on the legs and freaking out. He's just so excited.

In an earlier interview Anthony Ramos remembered the Me Reaction of the icon To Twistersand said that the 62-year-old star really “freaked out.” Ramos also said that the Oscar nominee hit him during the screening out of sheer excitement. And while speaking to Capital, the In the heights The star also raved about the props of the Security Iconic. Just the thought of being an actor and being praised by one of the biggest movie stars of all time is just surreal, and it's cool that Ramos has that memory now.

Such a cool moment probably wouldn't have happened if Glen Powell and Tom Cruise weren't such close friends. It's honestly cool that the two are still close after working on the 2022 blockbuster hit that Top Shooter: Maverick. At this point, Powell can simply mention his friendship casually with Cruise when asked to. Of course, it doesn't seem to be something he just brags about. All this talk about their friendship makes me wonder when we might see the two stars together on the big screen again. Nothing has been officially announced yet, but Powell recently teased Top Gun 3which means he and Cruise could soon be working together again.

In the meantime, I'm just happy to see these two celebrity buddies supporting each other even when they're not working together. I'm not sure if or when we'll see Tom Cruise at another of his buddy's premieres, but I wouldn't be surprised if he puts himself through even more “turmoil” and attends one at some point in the future.
