On August 16, agents from the 12th Judicial Drug Task Force assisted Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies and detectives after Dwight Daniel Stockwell fled from deputies on August 15 at 496 Mountain Cove Rd. in Whitwell.

During a search of a wooded area into which Stockwell had fled, a backpack and a large metal pipe were found, containing components of a laboratory for the production of methamphetamine with red phosphorus, as well as firearms and ammunition.

DTF agents obtained a search warrant for Stockwell's residence and found real methamphetamine as well as other chemicals and equipment used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

The Chattanooga Police Department's Bomb Disposal Unit was called to investigate the large metal pipe and clear the area of explosives, as Stockwell had a history of building homemade booby traps. Members of the Bomb Disposal Unit discovered explosives that appeared to be homemade. The explosives were removed from the property and turned in for further investigation.

The Tennessee Dangerous Drug Task Force went to the scene and packaged the chemicals used to make methamphetamine so they could be disposed of at a hazardous waste facility.
