22-year-old identified as victim of fatal double shooting near KC Park

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – The victim of a fatal double shooting over the weekend near a Kansas City park has been identified as a man who had just celebrated his 22nd birthday.

Police in Kansas City, Missouri, announced on Sunday, August 18, that they had identified the man killed in a double shooting over the weekend as David C. Crowell, who turned 22 just a few days ago.

Shortly after 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, emergency responders said they were called to Maple Blvd. outside Maple Park for a report of a shooting. However, they were told that a vehicle had been shot at and had driven away.

Investigators said they were notified a few minutes later of a shooting near Smart and Bales Ave. This time, two victims were found – Crowell, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second who was taken to a nearby hospital. The second victim remains in stable condition.

Investigators said they have made progress in identifying the individuals involved and will continue to work with prosecutors to share any new information. No further information was released.
