1 arrest, 3 injured in police-involved shooting in Bricktown

A man is behind bars after a police officer was involved in a shooting in Bricktown last night and three people had to be hospitalized.

Oklahoma City police officers happened to be nearby Saturday night when a suspect began shooting into a crowd at the corner of Sheridan and Oklahoma Avenues in Bricktown.

It all started around 2 a.m., at closing time of several clubs in the Bricktown district.

“At that point they heard gunshots and there was a large group of people right there at the intersection,” said Captain Valerie Littlejohn of the OCPD.

She says police ran into the area and saw a suspect firing into the crowd.

The suspect shot three people in the crowd before fleeing the scene.

“The suspect turned around, had a gun, and at that moment the officers fired their weapons at the suspect. They missed and the suspect continued to run and eventually dropped the gun,” Littlejohn said.

According to police, the suspect ran several blocks before officers finally arrested him.

What led to the shooting is currently unclear to the police.

“I don't know if it was a fight or just some kind of disturbance,” Littlejohn said.

In addition, the two officers who shot the suspect were placed on leave.

“Whenever there is a shooting involving an officer, we place the officer on leave pending the investigation,” Littlejohn said.

According to police, the three injured were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
