Several people injured in “incident” at amusement park in western Pennsylvania

Several people were injured in an incident at an amusement park in western Pennsylvania on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at Waldameer and Water World in Erie around 7:25 p.m.

NBC affiliate Erie News Now reports that several passengers on the Flying Swings were injured during the ride. None of the injuries are life-threatening.

Erie News Now reported Saturday that initial reports indicated at least three children were injured.

“The attraction will remain closed until the state investigation is complete and they clear us to reopen the attraction and we, Waldameer, feel it is safe to reopen the attraction,” Steve Gorman, the park's president, told Erie News Now. “We are investigating the incidents to determine the cause. State Department of Agriculture inspectors will have at least one person on site today [Sunday] to assist with this investigation.”

Gorman said all other rides were fully operational, Erie News Now reports. He also said he had spoken to two of the injured and they only had bruises on their bodies.

The Flying Swings is a circular attraction with individual swing seats suspended from a central tower that slowly rises and rotates, according to the park's website. The facility opened in Waldameer's North End in 2011.
