Details of the incident

The Indian airline confirmed in a post on X that the incident took place at a hotel in London. It is currently working with local law enforcement authorities to investigate the case.

“We are deeply shocked by the unlawful break-in at a hotel belonging to a major international chain, which also affected one of our hotels. At Air India, we are as concerned about this incident as all of you. We are providing all possible support, including professional advice, to our colleague and the entire team. Air India said it has taken immediate action and shifted its employees to another hotel to ensure their safety and comfort. The airline also stated that it is constantly reviewing the hotel accommodations for its crew members based on feedback from its employees.

“We have contacted the management of the current hotel to ensure the safety of our colleagues staying there,” stated the freight forwarder. “We have been assured that there will be no compromise on security until our colleagues are relocated to another hotel.”

The airline said there had been “polite reminders” to follow the rules.

Further information on the extent of the attack is not available. Air India never confirmed that the crew member was physically or sexually assaulted, but again described the attack as “Burglary incident.” The identity of the victim is also not known.

“We ask that you respect the privacy of those involved,” the airline explained. “I ask everyone to refrain from speculation in social media posts and to use their judgment.”

No booking of hotel rooms for crew members

Air India was in trouble last month after admitting it had forgotten to book hotel rooms for crew members in Hyderabad. When the crew arrived at their planned hotel, they were told that no reservations had been made. After allegedly waiting for four hours, the crew were eventually taken to the airline's training ground, which was a very poor replacement.

“Air India attaches utmost importance to the safety and well-being of all employees travelling on business,” said the freight forwarder.
