Neighbors describe police-involved shooting in Roy

ROY- Homeowners in Roy said they heard several gunshots after a police officer was involved in a shooting Saturday night.

The incident happened at the intersection of 5650 S. 2775 West. Roy City police said officer-involved shooting. A man was shot and taken to a local hospital.

Nikki Murray, who lives nearby, said she thought she heard a car backfiring.

“I heard some kids outside who sounded very scared. I looked out the window at that point and saw two kids on a bike. One was yelling to the other that they had to get out of there,” she said.

“Then I looked up, saw and heard more bangs and I realized they were real gunshots.”

Bo Jensen, who also lives nearby, said his aunt and a friend texted him asking if he knew what was going on.

“I looked at my cameras and actually you could hear all the shots and everything,” Said Jensen.

Jensen and Murray said they heard between 20 and 30 gunshots. Neighbors said several emergency responders from Weber and Davis counties arrived at the scene.

“I was sitting right by the window in our living room,” Jensen said. “One of those bullets could have gone by and hit one of my kids or something.”

Both Jensen and Murray said it was a “miracle” that no one else was caught in the crossfire.

“I don't know the whole situation,” Murray said. “But someone else could have been hurt. More than 20 shots is crazy.”

Authorities have not released any information about what led to the shooting or the man's condition.

The officers involved have been placed on leave. The Weber County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating.
