Nottingham Forest's Danilo discharged from hospital after horrific ankle injury | Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo has vowed to be “back soon” after breaking his ankle seven minutes into the new Premier League season.

The 23-year-old sustained the nasty injury when he took an unfortunate fall following an early aerial challenge with Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo in Forest's 1-1 draw.

He required nine minutes of treatment, with club staff shielding him from the crowd with blankets, and was taken directly to Queen's University Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Danilo was able to return home later on Saturday and posted on Instagram: “Hey guys, I'm stopping by to tell you that I'm fine, thank God, and that I'm already home. We'll be back soon and thank you all for the supportive messages.”

Nuno Espírito Santo had already confirmed that Danilo would have a long break ahead of him. “It's terrible for everyone,” said the Forest manager. “We will miss him, not only on the pitch. We know him, always smiling, always happy. He is a very important player for us. We wish him all the best.”

Nuno said that “not only our players” were affected by the incident, but “everyone who had anything to do with the stadium – it stays in the players' minds”.

Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola said: “We could see straight away [the seriousness of the injury]I realized it was going to be very bad.”

Forest took the lead shortly after Danilo's injury when Chris Wood struck, but Semenyo grabbed a point for the visitors in the 86th minute. Bournemouth were without their record signing Evanilson, whose move from Porto for a fee in excess of £40m was not completed in time for him to feature.

Lilles Gomes is “doing well” after head injury

Lille midfielder Angel Gomes said he was “fine” after being hospitalized with a serious head injury during his side’s Ligue 1 match against Reims.

Gomes wrote on Instagram: “Just a message to let everyone know I'm doing well! The support has been overwhelming and I just thank God everything is OK. Love and blessings! PS. Reminds me to stop jumping to stop throwing headers.”

Lille's season-opening match was halted for more than 30 minutes as Gomes required on-field treatment following a collision with Reims midfielder Amadou Koné. The 23-year-old was taken away on a stretcher. Lille coach Bruno Génésio said he was “very, very scared” of the injury that left Gomes unconscious.

Club president Olivier Letang said after Lille's 2-0 win: “Angel Gomes is doing pretty well, but we will wait and see how he spends the night and what other tests he does before we can say there is definitely a happy ending.”

“The latest news is quite reassuring, but it is better to be cautious,” Génésio said in an interview after Saturday's game. “Angel asked if he would play [next] Saturday, which is a good sign if he has a sense of humor. For me, tonight's game was secondary.” Reuters
