Family remembers West Nashville shooting victim and seeks answers about his death

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – With a big smile, sense of family and love, his loved ones remember 24-year-old Christopher Rhodes.

City police said Rhodes was shot Saturday night in front of Building S of the Richland Hills Apartments.

“He loved my daughter, he loved his family, he had four siblings whom he loved infinitely,”

Hardin says Rhodes has a son in her daughter who has been part of their family for years. As if that wasn't bad enough, Hardin says the shooting took place in front of Rhodes' three-year-old son.

“He keeps replaying in his mind what happened,” Hardin said. “His father fought, his father fought, he saw someone shoot his father. I just pray that my grandson doesn't have to remember that forever.”

According to police, Rhodes and his girlfriend were loading furniture into their apartment when the suspect confronted them. According to witnesses, Rhodes tried to calm the suspect down, but the suspect shot Rhodes, and he died shortly afterward in the hospital.

“How much more can we endure as a world, as a community, as people?” Hardin asked. “How many more lives must be destroyed before change occurs?”

Rhodes' death is the second shooting in just three days at the Richland Hills Apartments, and people we spoke to at the complex say it's a worrying spike.

Police have not released any information or details about a possible suspect. Hardin said the suspect should turn himself in.

“If you're man enough to take a life, be man enough to give your life for the life you took,” Hardin said.

According to police, there is no danger to the public, but the suspect is still at large.
