Car crash in Westwego leaves one dead after hitting dump truck

WESTWEGO, Louisiana (WVUE) – According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, a motorist died early Sunday morning (August 18) when he drove his sedan into a dump truck in unincorporated Westwego.

Officers responded to the crash shortly after 4 a.m. on 9 Mile Point Road between West 9 Mile Point Road and US 90B.

The sedan struck the dump truck from behind as both vehicles were traveling south. The driver of the sedan was extricated from the vehicle by the 9 Mile Point Volunteer Fire Department and transported to a local hospital where he later died.

The driver of the dump truck was not seriously injured. Authorities do not believe the driver of the dump truck was impaired.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy and toxicology tests.
