BALTIMORE – One man died and seven other people were injured by gunfire near an East Baltimore park Sunday night, police said.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of Spring Street near Caroline & Hoffman Park around 8 p.m., where eight people between the ages of 22 and 45 were found shot to death.

A 36-year-old man has died and his condition otherwise ranges from stable to critical.

“I am acutely aware of the impact such an incentive would have on our communities. In the days, weeks and even months ahead, it will be our job to work with this community to process the trauma of this evening's events,” said Faith Leach, chief administrative officer for the City of Baltimore.

Police said there was a gathering on Spring Street when several people fired shots. Several weapons were found at the scene, police said.

“It's a very extensive crime scene,” said Baltimore Police Chief Richard Worley. “Investigators are talking to witnesses and residents and trying to identify any video we can find. What we do know is that officers found multiple victims and multiple firearms.”

If anyone has information about the shooting, call police at 443-902-4824 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-66-7-LOCK-up.

“We all have a responsibility to our neighbors,” Leach said. “We have a responsibility to our families and our communities. If you know anything about this incident, please come forward.”

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, who is currently in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention, released a statement saying, in part: “Tonight, Baltimore is grappling with the aftermath of yet another mass murder that has left one Baltimore resident dead and several others irreparably altered. Baltimore Police Department investigators will work tirelessly to find and hold accountable those responsible for this horrific act of violence.”
