Jonesboro woman killed in car crash

On Sunday, August 18, 2024, shortly after 7:00 a.m., officers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a fatal car crash on US Highway 167 near Harper Bottom Road. The crash resulted in the death of 48-year-old Deshundra Johnson.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Johnson was driving a white Nissan Altima southbound on US Highway 167. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan veered off the right side of the road. Johnson attempted to regain control of the Nissan by steering to the left, but oversteered. As a result, the vehicle crossed the southbound and northbound lanes of US Highway 167 and struck a tree in the right shoulder northbound lane.

Johnson, who was not properly restrained, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Although no impairment is suspected, routine toxicology samples were taken and sent for analysis. This accident remains under investigation.

Police would like to remind motorists to always make good decisions when in a motor vehicle. Never drive while impaired, tired or distracted, obey all traffic laws and always make sure all passengers are properly restrained. While not all accidents can be survived, simple precautions like these can often mean the difference between life and death.
