Bald eagle released in Kiptopeke State Park

A recovered bald eagle was released in Kiptopeke State Park on Friday afternoon.

After five months of treatment and care, bald eagle #24-0336 was released back into the sky in front of about 100 people. The eagle was found in a field in Northampton County on March 20. Upon arrival at the Wildlife Center, the veterinary team found a significant ulnar fracture in the eagle's left wing, accompanied by a large hematoma. He also had a laceration on his foot. The team suspects the eagle was struck by a vehicle.

During training sessions, the eagle's left wing initially drooped, but as the bird regained its strength and stamina, the drooping of the wing subsided.

The bird was ready to go and acted accordingly. Almost immediately on Friday afternoon, he left the kennel and flew back toward the Chesapeake Bay.

The organizers were delighted with the number of visitors and said that far more spectators came than expected.
