Man arrested after police chase from Fort Wayne to Ohio

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police arrested a 24-year-old man after he led them on a chase into Ohio Sunday morning.

Around 7 a.m., they received a call about a suspicious vehicle parked in a private parking lot. They found Gage Maples sleeping in the car. He then got into the driver's seat and drove off while police searched for warrants.

According to police, Maples' vehicle lost all four tires after stop bars were deployed, but he continued driving on the rims all the way to Ohio, where he was arrested after losing control and stopping in a field.

Details/Summary: On August 18, 2024, Fort Wayne Police received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in a private parking lot. The officer arrived and made contact with the individual who had been sleeping and was later identified as Gage Maples. While the officer was checking for warrants, Gage jumped into the driver's seat and also into the vehicle. Officers were able to deploy a tire deflation device (stop) on the vehicle near Jefferson Blvd and Ardmore Av. The tire deflation device was successfully deployed and deflated three of the tires
The chase continued into downtown Fort Wayne, through the city of New Haven, and into the county. The vehicle eventually lost all four wheels and rode on its rims. The vehicle continued to travel and entered the state of Ohio. The vehicle eventually lost control and drove into a farm field. The vehicle later came to a stop and Gage was arrested. The chase reached speeds of 80 miles per hour and no one was injured in this incident. Gage's license was listed as “impaired driving outside of Ohio.”
Suspect #1 arrested: Gage Maples, age 24. Preliminary charge: Resisting Law Enforcement – Fleeing in a Vehicle, Level 6 Felony.
