play

Authorities arrested a man Sunday night who they say was on a wild crime spree through York and Adams counties, stealing vehicles, robbing a Rutter's restaurant and attempting a carjacking at a restaurant, according to news releases.

York County Regional Police identified the man as 31-year-old Dwayne Wolfe. An address was not provided, but police said he is from Maryland. He is scheduled to be arraigned this morning, according to online court records.

According to online court records, Wolfe is charged with robbery, attempted robbery, theft by unauthorized taking, false identification to police and more.

It started around noon Sunday in the McSherrystown district of Adams County, when police responded to an attempted robbery at a Turkey Hill convenience store in the 600 block of South Main Street. Thirty minutes later, police received a call about another attempted robbery at a Uni Mart just two blocks away involving the same man, according to county police.

McSherrystown County Police provided a description of the man and said he was driving a gray, four-door Toyota Camry with Pennsylvania license plate LPW 7513. The car had been reported stolen in Gettysburg after the man abandoned a vehicle stolen in Maryland, according to county police and York County Regional Police.

Hanover Borough and Penn Township police spotted the car but called off the pursuit, York County Regional Police said in the news release.

Robbery reported at Spring Grove supermarket

The man stopped at Dunkin Donuts in Spring Grove just before 2 p.m. He attempted to steal money by going behind the counter. He then went to a Rutter's store in the district and stole more than $500, the news release said.

An officer spotted the stolen vehicle just outside West York and was pursued by police officers from multiple agencies – West Manchester, West York, York City and York County Regional. The man abandoned the car in the 1300 block of West Princess Street and ran away.

Police searched for the man with the help of a sniffer dog. An officer spotted the man behind the CVS store on Richland Avenue, but the suspect ran away when police tried to arrest him, the news release said.

Police allege the man then stole a dirt bike and a grey Mazda 3 hatchback in the city of York.

Attempted car theft reported at a York Township restaurant

At around 6:10 p.m., police received a report of an attempted carjacking at the Lion's Pride Restaurant in York Township. The man's description matched the suspect, police said.

Police searched the area and found him behind a bench in the 900 block of Country Club Road in York Township. He was taken into custody, the release said.

York County Regional Police say officers recovered $493 and other evidence of the crimes from the man's shorts, the press release said. Police were still searching for the missing Mazda 3 as of last night.

In the press release, police wrote that Wolfe “has an impressive 30-page criminal record for his young age.”
