Accident in Büchel leaves one dead and one injured. Driver faces charges

One person is dead and another injured after their vehicle struck a utility pole and a tree at an intersection in the Buechel neighborhood on Sunday, Louisville Metro Police said. The driver of the vehicle faces criminal charges after being arrested by police.

At 5:13 p.m., officers from LMPD's 6th Division responded to a report of a car crash at the corner of Breckenridge Lane and Redding Road, LMPD spokesman Matt Sanders said in a statement. Officers found two injured occupants, both of whom were later transported by emergency responders to the University of Louisville Hospital.

A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the hospital and the driver had “serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” Sanders said.

LMPD traffic police believe the vehicle was traveling northbound on Breckenridge Lane at a “high rate of speed” when the driver lost control. The vehicle crossed into the southbound lane before striking the utility pole and tree, Sanders said. The driver, 45-year-old Wimpy L. Myers II, is charged with murder, first-degree criminal damage and driving while intoxicated.

Sanders said some residents in the area were left without power as a result of the accident and LG&E is working to restore power. According to LG&E's outage tracker, fewer than five customers near the accident scene were without power as of 7 a.m. Monday. LG&E estimated power would be restored around 10:30 a.m. Monday.
