Students admitted after rat repellent was sprayed in a Bengaluru hostel, causing illnesses

A total of 19 students of the hostel of Adarsh ​​Nursing College in Bengaluru were admitted to hospital after they developed breathing problems on the night of August 18 due to a rat repellent sprayed by the hostel administration to drive away the rats, officials said on Monday.

“A total of 19 students developed respiratory problems due to toxic substances and were immediately admitted to nearby hospitals along with other students in the hostel, hostel staff and the public,” said S. Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Bengaluru.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police of West Bengaluru, three of the 19 students are seriously ill and have been shifted to the intensive care unit.

“Almost all the students have been treated in the hospitals and are healthy. Among them, three students named Jayan Varghese, Dileesh and Jo Mon are critically ill and are admitted in the intensive care unit,” said the DCP of West Bengaluru.

The hostel management staff who scattered rat poison will be charged under Section 286 of the BNS, he added.
