September trial date set for man charged in 2023 Lyon County traffic crash that left two people dead

EMPORIA, Kansas (WIBW) – A man accused in a car crash that killed two people near Emporia in 2023 is scheduled to go on trial in Lyon County next month, KVOE Radio reports.

The man, Travis Duane Edwards, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault and obstructing law enforcement officers in connection with the crash, which occurred on April 23, 2023 outside Emporia on Highway US-50.

Two people died as a result of the accident, KVOE reported.

Edwards' trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 3 after a motion for a hearing was filed Friday in Lyon County District Court, KVOE reports.

The charges against Edwards followed the April 2023 accident on US-50 near Road C.

According to KVOE, in addition to the two fatalities, Edwards and three other people were injured in the accident.
