Supreme Court intervenes: demand for justice in the tragic death of a junior doctor

In a significant development, Congress leader Rashid Ali expressed appreciation for the Supreme Court's decision to take cognizance of the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Ali stressed his confidence that the Supreme Court will bring out the truth and ensure justice.

Rashid Ali told ANI that he welcomed the Supreme Court's intervention. He said, “The Supreme Court will bring out the truth behind the case and ensure justice. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the case and under the supervision of the Supreme Court, this is a good sign for justice.”

The body of the trainee doctor was found in the hospital's seminar room on August 9, prompting immediate police action and then the CBI being called in on the directions of the Calcutta High Court. The Supreme Court's intervention followed an appeal by two lawyers and a doctor, who stressed the need for immediate and thorough judicial intervention.

While the country awaits justice from the judiciary, this case underscores the urgent need for strict measures to protect medical personnel. Other petitions before the Supreme Court are demanding enhanced security for medical facilities across the country. The tragic incident sparked widespread protests demanding harsh punishment for the accused and comprehensive security for medical personnel.
