Murder and bomb threat on the New Jersey coast turned out to be “swatting”, police search for perpetrator

Two swatting incidents within two days have sparked police investigations in a New Jersey shore town this weekend.

On Saturday, the emergency dispatch center received a call about a bomb threat at a hotel in Avalon.

According to police, no bomb was found and the building was evacuated.

The next day, a caller reported a homicide at a home near the first incident in the 7700 block of Dune Drive.

“The caller claimed that if police showed up at the house, law enforcement officers might be killed,” Avalon police said.

The tenants of the house told the authorities at the time that no crime had been committed.

Police concluded that both incidents were swatting and are still looking for the person who made the prank calls.

“Individuals identified in 'swatting' incidents will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
