Chase at over 100 mph ends in accident and arrest for drunk driving in Oakland County

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI. – A 31-year-old Bloomfield Hills man was arrested after speeding in Oakland County.

It happened just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, August 17th.

According to authorities, Bloomfield Township Police were alerted to a possible drunk driver in a white Toyota Tacoma who violated a red light and drove erratically on Telegraph Road.

When police attempted to stop the speeding vehicle near Square Lake Road, the driver sped away, crossing all lanes and reaching speeds of over 100 mph.

The pursuit ended when the Toyota struck a curb near Humphrey Avenue, crossed the median into oncoming traffic, entered a roadside ditch and struck a tree.

According to police, the driver ran away when he got out of the vehicle. He was arrested shortly afterwards. He reportedly smelled strongly of drugs.

Police identified the driver as Justin Michael Luark, a 31-year-old Bloomfield Hills man. While searching the Toyota, police reportedly found a small baggie containing suspected oxycodone.

A breath sample taken at the Bloomfield Township Police Department showed a blood alcohol content of .153.

Luark was charged with second-degree fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing public order, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license. He was ordered to post $8,000 bail.
