Nurse arrested for stealing prison inmate's medication, officials say

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE/Gray News) – A nurse was arrested after stealing medication from a prison inmate, officials said.

On August 7, authorities began investigating Tracy Davis, a third-party employee who works at the Vanderburgh County Jail.

According to authorities, prison staff believed she may have been impaired because she appeared disoriented and confused.

According to authorities, surveillance camera footage shows Davis tampering with the Suboxone pills and moving them from their usual storage location to a location out of view of the camera.

Suboxone is a prescription opioid used to treat opioid addiction.

Investigators found several errors in Davis' entries in the prison drug registry.

On August 8, she returned to work at the prison and was questioned by detectives, who said she admitted to taking Suboxone.

Davis was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on charges of theft and drug possession.
