Chandigarh:

A dental student accused a doctor at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak of assaulting her, police said on Monday.

Police said the accused was arrested after charges were filed.

The incident came at a time when there was nationwide outrage over the murder of a doctor in Calcutta.

Rohtak police said they received an incident on Saturday evening from the PGIMS authorities regarding an attack on a BDS student on the PGIMS campus in Rohtak. Based on the information, senior police officials quickly responded to the medical college and contacted the victim and her family.

In her complaint, the student alleged that the accused kidnapped her from PGIMS on August 16, took her to Ambala and Chandigarh and tortured and beat her there, police said.

According to police, a report was filed and the accused was immediately arrested. The victim was medically examined and her statement was also recorded before a justice of the peace, it said.

Rohtak police said there was no evidence of sexual harassment in the girl's statement or during the investigation.

In a video she uploaded to social media, the victim showed signs of injuries as a result of the alleged attack.

She stated that she was in her first year of studying at BDS and claimed that she had been tortured by the accused for seven months.

“He beats and tortures me whenever I tell him I don't want to be with him. He threatens not to grade my attendance in lectures and not to allow me to take exams,” the student claimed in the video.

The accused is being interrogated in detail and an investigation is being carried out taking into account every aspect of the case, Rohtak Deputy Commissioner of Police Virender Singh said in a statement.

He said the BDS student complained about the attack on Saturday night.

“The police team and senior officers of PGIMS immediately reached the spot. The police immediately took cognizance of the case and an FIR was filed against the accused,” he said.
