Victor Boniface in trouble? Super Eagles star is being investigated for alleged foul gesture during Bayer Leverkusen's Super Cup victory

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is under surveillance after the German Football Association (DFB) launched an investigation into his conduct following Bayer Leverkusen’s Super Cup victory over VfB Stuttgart, reports Soccernet.ng..

The focus of the investigation, which the DFB announced on Monday according to Weltfußball, is an alleged unsportsmanlike gesture by Bonifatius during the post-match celebration.

The 23-year-old Super Eagles striker reportedly flashed the middle finger at opposing players as he ran past them following Leverkusen's dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout win.

In Saturday night's match, Boniface scored an early goal in the 11th minute but was then substituted for tactical reasons after Martin Terrier was shown the red card in the first half.

Referee Tobias Stieler, who officiated the match, said he had not witnessed the alleged gesture so that the DFB's control committee could investigate the incident.

The DFB is investigating whether Bonifatius' actions constitute blatant unsportsmanlike conduct.

Although Boniface has been asked to comment on the allegations, the situation remains unclear.

Stuttgart players have reportedly accused the Nigerian of the offensive gesture, but there is no concrete evidence or television footage confirming the incident.

The controversy further fuelled tensions and the Stuttgart players almost left the pitch in protest, but were stopped by their press spokesman.

To add to the drama, Boniface received a yellow card on the bench in the 80th minute for dissenting after his team had been penalised by a video referee decision.

Boniface was named Rookie of the Year last season after a spectacular debut season in Germany which culminated in Bayer Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga for the first time in the club's history.
