Car crash in Fort Worth, Texas leaves 5 dead on I-35W; driver arrested


The accident occurred early Monday morning around midnight and led to the closure of the northbound motorway.

A 19-year-old driver was arrested after five people, including two children, were killed in a car crash in Fort Worth, Texas, Monday morning, according to multiple reports.

The accident closed Interstate 35W for several hours, but it was not reopened until 5:30 a.m. local time, WFAA and Fort Worth Star-Telegram report. Another person was hospitalized in critical condition.

Eduardo Gonzalez, 19, has been charged with drunken driving and five counts of vehicular manslaughter, according to multiple reports. Gonzalez was injured in the crash and was treated at a local hospital.

Police arrived at the scene around midnight and found that a Camaro had rear-ended a sedan traveling north on the highway, according to WFAA. Several people were inside the sedan.

USA TODAY has reached out to Fort Worth police and the Texas Department of Transportation for comment.

The crash is reportedly currently under investigation.
